Boards & Committees

How a citizen is appointed to a board:

A citizen must fill out an application and indicate which board(s) they are interested in serving on. Once a position is open for the board(s), the Community Relations Committee is given a copy of the applicants application. The Community Relations Committee then makes a recommendation to the City Commission who is the final decision maker. The Community Relations Committee meets immediately following Worksession meetings and the City Commission will consider their recommendation at their City Commission meeting the following day.

Serving as a member of a board, commission, or committee can be a rewarding way to contribute to the forward progress of the City of Muskegon.

Most boards will require you to be a resident of the City of Muskegon, and some boards have Ward-specific requirements. To identify your Ward (1, 2, 3, or 4), a few options are provided below:

  1. Interactive Commissioner/Ward/Precinct Lookup Tool
