MDOT to Host Public Meeting on 2026 M-46 Reconstruction Project
February 11, 2025
Join our city’s Public Works team as they collaborate with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to host a public meeting on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at Muskegon City Hall where they will discuss the planned 2026 reconstruction of M-46 (Apple Avenue).
City representatives, local businesses, interested residents, and MDOT staff will be available to provide project details, scheduling information, and expected traffic impacts. Attendees are welcome to stop by at any time during the meeting to learn more and provide input.
Project Overview
MDOT’s upcoming project will rebuild more than two miles of M-46, from Muskegon Avenue to Home Street. The work includes:
- New asphalt surfacing
- Lane reconfiguration
- New storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main
- New concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalks
- Traffic calming measures, including a four- to three-lane conversion with a dedicated left-turn lane
As part of the project, Root Memorial Park will be temporarily closed to accommodate changes at the M-46/First Street intersection. However, the modifications will result in additional green space at the park once construction is complete.
Public Comment and Accessibility
MDOT is seeking public feedback on the project’s recreational impacts during construction and the proposed greenspace enhancements at Root Memorial Park. Residents can submit comments:
- In person at the public meeting on February 24th
- By email to Monica Monsma at MonsmaM@Michigan.gov
- By mail to MDOT Environmental Services Section, 425 West Ottawa St., P.O. Box 30050, Lansing, MI 48909
