One-Day Citizen’s Public Safety Workshop
Muskegon, MI –The City of Muskegon Public Safety Division is excited to host a one-day Citizen’s Public Safety Workshop on October 18, 2024. This hands-on program is designed for citizens age 18 and older to foster a deeper understanding of law enforcement functions and the vital role of public safety in our community.
Participants will engage in various activities aimed at dispelling misconceptions and promoting positive communication between citizens and police. Key topics include the use of force, de-escalation tactics, mental health awareness, the police drone unit, traffic stops, and fire extinguishing techniques.
“This workshop is an excellent opportunity for our community members to learn about the realities of public safety, engage with officers, and ask questions in a supportive environment,” said Tim Kozal, Director of Public Safety. “We aim to bridge the gap between our officers and the community we serve.”

Application Requirement: Interested individuals must apply by October 7 and consent to a criminal history check to be considered for acceptance.
Participants should be prepared for physical activities, including walking, standing for extended periods, and lifting up to 10 pounds. Discussions will also include sensitive topics such as gun violence and realistic police scenarios.
