Protecting the Hartshorn Park Peninsula

May 29, 2025

In response to growing environmental concerns raised by local advocates, the City of Muskegon has taken steps to protect the sensitive shoreline and wetlands of the Hartshorn Park peninsula.

With the return of summer, vehicle traffic and parking along the shoreline have increased—causing damage to the natural landscape and fragile ecosystem. To help preserve this unique part of our park system, the City has placed boulders to block vehicle access, and a sign will be installed soon to inform and guide visitors.

While this issue has been discussed for several weeks, recent activities at the peninsula made the need for action more urgent. We kindly ask that all visitors enjoy Hartshorn Park on foot or by bike, and respect the efforts to keep our shoreline healthy.
