Sidewalk Snow Removal Guidelines Explained

January 29, 2025

Sidewalk Snow Removal Rules Every Resident Should Know

Winter in our city always comes with snow and the responsibility of keeping sidewalks safe and clear. To help everyone stay informed, here’s a quick breakdown of the city’s snow removal rules from Chapter 74 of our City Ordinance (Sec. 74-7 & Sec. 74-8).

Clearing Your Sidewalks (Sec. 74-7)

If it snows, property owners, occupants, or those in charge must clear the sidewalks within 24 hours after the snowstorm ends (or as soon as possible). Keeping sidewalks clear ensures safe passage for all of our residents.

What happens if you don’t?

  • Each day a sidewalk remains uncleared is considered a separate violation.
  • City officials, including police officers and authorized staff, can issue civil infraction tickets.
  • Violators will be fined accordingly.

Where NOT to Put Your Snow (Sec. 74-8)

While clearing your property, do not push or move snow onto public sidewalks, streets, alleys, or roadways. This rule helps prevent hazardous conditions for drivers and pedestrians alike.

By following these guidelines, we can all do our part to keep the city safe and accessible during the winter months. We appreciate your cooperation!
