Citywide Tree Inventory Begins June 10, 2025

The City of Muskegon is launching a comprehensive tree inventory this summer to assess the health and condition of its urban forest.

Starting Tuesday, June 10, crews from Davey Resource Group will begin cataloging approximately 25,000 city-owned trees across Muskegon. The project is expected to be completed by September and is made possible through a grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

As part of the inventory, each tree will be evaluated for its size, species, condition, and any maintenance needs. This data will help the city’s forestry department plan more effectively for future planting, pruning, and preservation efforts.

Residents may notice Davey crews working throughout the summer in parks, along streets, and in public spaces. No action is needed from the public, but awareness and patience are appreciated as teams conduct their assessments.

The city will share updates and findings once the inventory is complete.
