Western Avenue Resurfacing Project Begins This Fall – Informational Meetings Scheduled

The City of Muskegon is preparing to resurface Western Ave and portions of surrounding streets beginning no earlier than mid-September 2025.

The resurfacing work will improve road conditions along:

  • Western Avenue from 8th Street to Terrace Street

  • 7th Street from Western Avenue to Shoreline Drive

  • 6th Street from Western Avenue toward Clay Avenue (up to the alley)

This fall’s work will begin with Western Avenue from 8th Street to at least 4th Street, depending on contractor availability the remainder may be done in 2026.  A contractor will be selected following a vote by the City Commission on September 9, 2025.

This is a resurfacing-only project—no changes will be made to street layout, curbs, or traffic patterns. The goal is to maintain business and residential access throughout construction while minimizing disruption.

Public Informational Meetings

To share project details and answer questions about traffic control, construction timing, and access, the city will host two public informational sessions for downtown businesses and residents:

Each session will include a brief presentation followed by time for Q&A. If you’re unable to attend, we encourage you to reach out directly to discuss the project.
